New Plan Reimagines NYC Bridges & Tunnels

Representatives from NYSLOF attended a press conference in support of a huge infrastructure plan to transform and re-imagine New York's crossings for the 21st century.

The plan will institute state-of-the-art automatic tolling at all MTA bridges and tunnels, and the state will deploy cutting-edge technology and security personnel to high-profile crossings to enhance public safety and fortify anti-terror efforts.

As part of what has been dubbed the New York Crossings Project, the state also plans to implement new tunnel barriers to control major floods and seismic measures on bridges that will provide long-term protection from earthquakes and other natural forces.

Governor Cuomo spoke to a packed auditorium of dignitaries and politicians, including President of the Building & Construction Trades Council of Greater NY Gary LaBarbera, (left of center) at the New York Historical Society.

Cuomo specifically called for attention towards the single biggest infrastructure project in the country - The Gateway Project - which will expand critical transit capacity across the Northeast Corridor.

This will provide work and stability for our members across the 5 boroughs for years to come.

The New York Crossings Project encompasses all seven MTA-operated bridges and its two tunnels, including the Henry Hudson Bridge, Whitestone Bridge, Throgs Neck Bridge, RFK Triborough Bridge, Queens Midtown Tunnel, Hugh L. Carey Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge and Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge.
