The US House of Representatives passed a two month highway policy extension before both money and authority run out. This was sent over to the Senate, where legislators are expected to pass the measure on to the president before they leave for Memorial Day recess, just in time to re-up Highway Trust Fund authority before the May 31 expiration.

House leaders eventually gave enough support to move the extension but the tolerance for these shortterm patches is running thin.

"The proud men and women of LIUNA, and of all the building trades, are ready to do our job: rebuilding America’s infrastructure. It’s time to stop kicking the can down the road and fix the road,"

- General President Terry O’Sullivan
