Cross Harbor Rail Tunnel

LET'S MAKE WAY FOR

THE CROSS HARBOR RAIL TUNNEL

We've had the hearings…

Everyone supports the project…

It's time for the next step!

The Cross Harbor Rail Tunnel is a proposal to connect rail points east (Brooklyn, NY) and west (Jersey City, NJ) of the Hudson River via an underground tunnel beneath the New York Harbor. Poor rail connections between the two states are the primary reason that parts of the Northeast are so dependent on trucks. Over 90% of freight coming into NY and Connecticut is via trucks.

The Tunnel is projected to remove over one million trucks off our region’s roads and create tens of thousands of local jobs. The proposal is currently being studied by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which is conducting an environmental impact study.

Hearings have been held for the proposed Cross Harbor Rail Tunnel regarding the release of the Port Authority Tier 1 Environmental Impact Study. The hearings are taking place in and around New York City and are open to the public for comment.

The proposed tunnel would create two new freight rail lines from New Jersey to New York City. NYS Laborers' PAC is coordinating testimonies for the hearings. Members of Local 147 have attended the hearings to provide public comments in support of the project.
